Before this year is over, consider fasting! God wants to pour His blessings into a clean vessel, and that means we must be purified. In Saint Luke 5:36-39, Jesus shares a parable that teaches us we cannot put new garments upon old ones. He shared this wisdom when asked why the disciples of John often fast and pray (Saint Luke 5:33).
Before you begin your fast, ask God, "Is there a specific kind of fast You want me to do? And for how long?" There are many types of fasts in the Bible, such as the Daniel fast, the Esther fast, and the fast that Jesus did. This type of fast involves turning down your plate! Today's society has tried to change God's meaning of fasting, but it's important to remember His original intention: no food for the duration He instructs and during the hours He tells you.
I highly recommend sitting with Him today and seeking His guidance about your fast. Turn down the noise before the year ends and fall into His arms and His presence. I truly believe that He wants many of us to turn down our plates and eliminate outside noise (TV, social media, phone conversations) so that we can focus on Him.
Take this to God, lay it at His feet, and ask Him if this is for you! If you feel like "there's no way I can do a fast from eating for 3 days," that might be a sign you need to do it. Speaking from personal experience, when I felt like that and followed through with the fast, afterward, I felt... CLEAN! Don't allow your flesh to win!
Your flesh is not your God!
Stay strong and walk boldly in faith!
